Electric fans
Electric fans
I read on www.truckperformance.com that a set of electric fans for my 94 5.8l would add 12hp & 16ft/lbs tq. Has anyone done this and are the gains really there? I have heard that people are going to junkyards and getting the fans off of one of the Crown Vics and plugging them in as a cheap alternative to the $290 they want on truckperformance.
Anyone out there using electric fans? I have the HD cooling package with the oversized radiator so I don't think I would have to worry too much about any cooling penalty by going to electric. Actually, they are dual fans with one on full time and the other one thermostatically controlled.

i put electric fans on my truck, mainly because since i have a body lift, the mechanical fan wasnt even with the radiator. i have no cooling problems whatsoever, but the fans definitely did not add 12hp 16 tq. i didint notice any power improvements over the mechanical. if you want to feel a difference (and you dont have cooling problems), id say hold off on teh fans and spend the $$$ somehwere else. fi you are going to get the fan, check the junk yards first. if not, then dont buy it from truckperformance.com, they had a kit for my truck for 300 bucks, and i bought a flex-a-lite fan from summit (which included everything i neeeded) for about 180 i think it was.
