are all ford 9" rearends the same?

a friend of mine offered me a ford 9" rearend for free off of a 67 ford fairlane. will this fit under an f-150 of around my year? just curious, thanks....

They are not all the same, some are more desireable than others. I can't help you with the fairlane question though.

It could be made to fit, with a good welder and alot of patience, but it would be easier, and probably cheaper, to buy a 9" designed to fit your truck. Still, if it's free, grab it! They are a hot item. You could turn it in no time, and make some money.

If you go to www.fordmuscle.com they have an excellent article on 9" rears.

They have many variations. Most of the car ones only have 28 splines. The better factory setups utilize 31 splines and have a "N" for nodular iron in the center of the strengthening webs on the carrier.
