tb spacers
tb spacers
Ok, I know I've seen a post about tb spacers (phenolic spacers I think I've seen them called) but the search feature is turned off and I can't seem to find it so I'm going to ask everyone here. Has anyone used a tb spacers like poweraid? I've seen adds stating 20hp & ?tq in the mid-range. It seems like this works like vortec heads by stirring up the air. Do these work? Can you feel the difference or any mileage gains? I'm modding my airbox and have added a k&n drop-in and would like to do any other cheap add-ons. Even if it only adds 5-10hp it seems that for the price it is worth it. I'm planning a gibson side-swept exhaust too.
Thanks, you guys have been a great source of info.

You might get about 5 hp out of those. To quote the guy at the shop, "If you want to feel the hp increase bad enough, you'll feel something." If you have a bone stock truck, you might notice a slight increase, but if you've got all the other gadgets on there (headers, intake, exhaust, pulleys, chip, ignition, etc.) you really won't notice much. And if you don't have all the other gadgets yet, then what are you waiting for???
I have a 1993 Ford F150 Supercab with the 5.0L engine. I have the flowmaster series 40 catback exhaust with SI/DO, the K&N FIPK, and also the Superchip (which I really like). I also installed a set of JBA shorty headers after the above mentioned mods which REALLY helped.
I put the PowerAid TB Spacer on my truck and didn't like it, but it depends on what you want it for. With the tb spacer installed my low end torque suffered. But at highway speeds, especially running 60 - 70 mph and then kicking it I could tell a very noticable difference. It acted like it had picked up 10-15 hp, it pulled much stronger. If it had left my low end torque alone I would have kept it, but the low end torque was worse with it installed and since I pull an 18ft. bass boat I took it off.
I later found out you need to remember the following when installing aftermarket equipment. If you increase the volume of air (which happens when you install a TB spacer, your low end torque can suffer. When you increase the velocity of the air you can increase the low end torque.
The Tornado that is advertised on tv is an example of an aftermarket equipment that increases the velocity which should increase your low to mid range torque. I would put this on my truck but my year truck is "speed density" with "twin tubes" from the throttle body to the K&N FIPK instead of "mass air" with only one tube so I would have to buy two tornados.
I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the info. I prefer low-end tq to high-end hp. I also pull a boat, 19ft bowrider, and I need the low-end grunt which is why I bought a 351 truck. My truck is also speed density. I also like to 4wheel when I can find a place and 300hp @ 4000rpm doesn't do you any good when you're crawling up a hill at 2000rpm. I really wanted to find a nice 300 I6 but they are hard to find. I imagine the people that own one won't part with it. I found mostly 302s on the market and only 1 sb/rc 351 so I bought it. Fortunately it was in mint condition.
