Question Transmissions in the '96's???

I am just curious-- which automatic transmissions are found in the '94-'96 F-150 302's and 351's? Did they use the AOD (what I have in my 1990) the notorious E4OD, or did they use something else? I might be looking at getting a newer truck someday and I just wanted some background information. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

My truck:

1990 F-150 4x4 XLT Lariat
Short bed, Regular Cab, Charcoal Gray
Rebuilt 302 V8, Rebuilt AOD transmission
4.10 gear ratio with limited slip differential
Crane Cams Compucam
K&N FIPK
Gibson shorty headers
High-flow cat. converter, 3" cat. back exhaust
Flowmaster "40 Series" muffler with dual turndowns
Tough Country 4" suspension lift with extended radius arms
Dunlop 35x12.50" Mud Rover tires
Ultra 15x10" aluminum rims
Alpine 7840 cd player
Alpine MRV-F307 amp.
Infiniti 605cs 6.5" door speakers with seperate tweeters
MTX subs (better replacements to come)
Delta diamond plated toolbox, diamond plated bed rail caps
Ford trailer hitch cover, and a few other knick knacks...

To Come/Wish list (changes daily):
- New subs
- Superchip
- Grill guard/fog lights
- 351 engine swap
- C6 tranny swap with shift kit, tranny cooler
- Aluminum cylinder heads
- Edelbrock intake manifold/throttle body
- Upgraded cooling system
- New camshaft for 351
- Upgraded ignition system?
- 6" Superlift suspension lift
- 2" body lift
- 36" Super Swampers
- 15x12" rims
- 4.56 gear swap with locker of some sort
- Roll bar?

About all I can think of at the moment...

Well I do know that the E4OD was still in use in the year model truck your talking about. But I did hear that it was changed in some sort though. I haven't researched that improvement myself but thats just what I heard.

Macgyver,

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure. I wanna say in the neighborhood of one grand, but don't quote me on that. I wasn't the one who had it done, the guy I bought the truck from had the tranny rebuilt. He told me how much he paid for it when I was checking everything out, but this was 2 1/2 years ago so I really can't recall exactly how much he said.

I think it's more than that to get it rebuilt. now a days they just get a junk yard tranny and clean it up, check to make sure the gears are good, get a new converter and paint the housing. that is all. to get someone to build you one today i would think it be more than a grand. just my .02.

You're probably right, it might have been more than a grand, but like I said, I really can't remember what the exact amount was. And it might also depend on what the guy's definition of "rebuilt" is. Maybe he just had some work done to it, not necassarily an overhaul or a swap and said he had it "rebuilt" to give me some peace of mind about buying a truck with a jacked tranny. Who knows? Best thing to do is go to some tranny shops and get some quotes. I'm sure they're all familiar with the Ford AOD's!
