Chalk one up for the Pre-97's!!
Chalk one up for the Pre-97's!!
A good friend of mine was talking smack to me about my pick-up yesterday. (We always B.S. and rag on each other's vehicles, and we are both FORD fans, go figure) Well anyway, he just recently purchased a '99 F-250 4x4 with a 5.4 and 3.73's. He's been away at college, and I didn't know he had bought the thing. (About two months ago), he got it to replace his '88 F-150 4x4. Anyhow, he's telling me how fast it is, and how much better it pulls his trailors (which I know it does). Then he said it was quicker than my P.O.S. F-150. That's when I had to take the challenge. I don't like racing as much as I use to with my truck just because it's getting old, high mileage, and I use to drive it pretty hard, and now I'm just driving it for reliability.
Well, we pull on to Scott Rd. (Old nicly paved rarely traveled country road.) I let him do the countdown simply because we both realized I had the advantage. When he floored it, I had it revved pretty high and I just popped the clutch the rest of the way and floored it. He actually pulled slightly ahead (I beleive this has something to do with him going on 2 and not on the count of 3), but after I shifted into 2nd, it was no contest, when I had to shift to third, I was already 2 1/2 - 3 truck lengths in front of him and gaining. I just put my brakes on at 80, and we pulled over. I asked him if he wanted to go again, and he declined after insulting me some more.
I realize this really wasn't a FAIR race by any means, but I'd forgotton how much fun a little friendly race was.
His Truck:
5.4 liter V8, Automatic, 4x4, 3.73's
My Truck:
5.0 Liter V8, Manual, 4x2, 3.55's

Good job!
That should shut him up for awhile.
Never under estimate a 302.

The only mods are a new ignition module, Bosch plugs and wires.( Platinum4's) Also, the timing's been advanced a little since the ignition module was put in.
Yes, the PSD's are fast! My nieghbor to the south has a '94 F-350 Crew Cab with a PSD. He knows how I like his truck so he let me drive it last summer. He insisted that I floor it, and I was VERY impressed! It breaks the paradigm of diesels!
