My 1988 302 F-150 has developed a rather nasty pinging problem. (136,000 miles). I just had a new ignition module put on because the last one failed and I had to use AAA... Anyhow, I had used about half a tank of 87 octane (I use the trip odometer to tell how much fuel I've used because we all know how relianle the fuel gauge is in these years!) and put in a half tank of 93 octane, so it was about a 50/50 mix. It considerable helped the problem, but it still pings in 3rd, 4th, and 5th in acceleration. I don't want to start using premium since I've never had to before. Anyone experience this or have any suggestion? As always, thanks!

I called the shop that put the ignition module in, and they said that they had reset the timing and to bring it in again,...I think that that is the problem, I'll find out I guess! Thanks.
P.S. I've got 136,000 miles and my oil pressure is running low, anybody else have this problem? Sometimes it's fine, even way better than fine, but, 80% of the time it is very low.

Fuel Gauge
The fuel gauges in the 87-91 F-150's, even 250's and 350's, were notorious for being unreliable. If it doesn't always read Empty, it's reading full, or bouncing wildly between. I have personally seen three (My '88, my friends '88, and anothers friends '89)F-150's that the fuel gauge was bogus in.
I found a sort of "quick fix" to the problem. I had a leaky fron tank and had it replaced about a year ago. Whilr the tank was off, I founf the tank gauge and fiddled with it. There was corrosion on the Ground part of the gauge, I scraped at that, and the gauge worked for about 3 weeks before going Kapooy again. I'm sure there are many other members with similiar trucks with this problem

Kinda off subject but...
My dad used to have a 1984 Bronco that was empty when the needle read 1/4 tank. I had to run out of gas 3 times to learn this. I guess most people could have learned with just one mishap. -- Martin

I have been having a pinging problem for about three weeks now. It goes away when the spark plug fouls in number eight cylinder. I've been cleaned the debris for about that same amount of time until one day there was no debris. After completing a check of compression "0" it's time for a new engine.
2,800.00 installed. There putting it in right now. Ill let you know if the pinging goes away?> Next week.
