Maintenance questions
Maintenance questions
I've got a 1987 F150 6 cyl. with 70000 miles and there's a couple maintenance items in my service manual that I can't find out how to do in my shop manual.
What is a crankcase emission filter and how do I replace it?
How do I clean the idle speed control bypass valve.

I've got a 1990 300 I6. The crancase emission filter is located inside the air intake box, next to your air filter. Typically yellow, rectangle in shape. Removal is easy, there is a clip on the outside of the ait box holding the fitting in place, remove it and the filter slips out.
To clean the idle bypass unit, remove it from the manifold, remove the electronic side (if it will separate, then dip it in carb cleaner to dissolve the carbon build up. BG also makes an EFI intake cleaner that I would think work well also without submersion but, the carb cleaner dip is a kerosene based product that would lubricate the internals also.
