94 4.9 loses power after 5-10 miles. HELP
Hi all,
I have a 1994 f150 300 I6 and 5 speed manual. I was driving to work this morning going down the highway at about 75 mph. I gave it more gas to get around a semi and up a hill, and the truck fell on its face, sputtering and backfiring and just generally not having any power. I pulled over, gave it throttle with the clutch pedal pressed and it revved to about 1500 and started spitting and backfiring again. I then restarted the truck, it ran and drove fine for another 5-10 miles then fell on its face again, identical to the first time. This shutoff, restart, drive 5-10 miles, rinse repeat had to happen another half dozen times to get to work this morning.
History on the truck: I bought it back in February, and the previous owner did exactly nothing to the truck. Within the first month of my owning it, it got a complete front end, plugs, wires, distributor cap and bug, thermostat, oil change, slave cylinder, throw out bearing, clutch, fuel filter, power steering pump, belt, and I’m sure I’m still forgetting something. Recently started sputtering lightly between 1200-2000 rpm, so I checked the fuel pressure and it was 38 psi at idle. Replaced the pump, truck ran fine for two days and now we’re here.
I have code 172 KOER and nothing else. I’m borrowing a timing light this afternoon and will update with that info when I can.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas? I’m at my wits end with this truck and have to drive it 3 1/2 hours this weekend.
