Howdy. I have a simple question for those who'd care to chime in:
I have a set of injectors about to go in the fuel rail and back on the intake manifold. No need to talk me out of it due to "injectors never going bad". The rail's off the truck, and not only did #3 test bad, #1 was apparently replaced at some point with the WRONG injector type by the PO's shop guy... Great work, chummy!
Anyway... This may only be an opinion question in the end, really. In my shop manual it says to lube them up before install with a particular oil:
However, in several other places I've seen it stated to specifically NOT use any lube on the tops/bottoms on their way in, and if anything just use fuel.
Is this particular oil they're pointing out used during the re-assembly of the injector itself? Or is this oil to be applied while re-assembling the rail?
Any answers/opinions appreciated. Thanks in advance!
That's plain old 10w30 motor oil. You should use a very light film on the o-rings to prevent damage to the dry o-rings and for easier assembly. It doesn't have to be 10w30, just about anything will do.
Of course it is! 🤦
I figured the answer would be something simple like that... Putting them in dry like some suggest seemed counterintuitive to me with some of that minor corrosion in the cup just waiting to scratch those new o rings. Thanks!
