1987 F-150 4.9L I6 Runs rich and runs rough after 10 minutes
My truck is a 1987 f-150 4.9L with a inline 6 engine. Every time I start it, It runs fine but there's a strong smell of gas coming out of the exhaust. I have checked the fuel injectors (Didn't take them out, Just listened to them) and they sound fine but I'm not sure if they are clogged. After driving the truck for about 10 minutes it starts to run rough and the battery gets pretty low, I have replaced the alternator and the battery and no luck. At this point I have no idea what the problem is because I am not a mechanic...(I have took my truck to multiple mechanics in my area and they never fixed it)
Have you checked the EEC for trouble codes? When was the last time it had an ignition tuneup?
Clogged injectors will not cause a smell of raw gas. They would be injecting too much fuel, not too little. If anything, they are leaking.
