Auto to Manual Swap ECM Help
Auto to Manual Swap ECM Help
Hello all, I'm currently in the process of converting my 1995 F150 XLT 4x4 to a manual transmission. I picked up a M5OD-R2 from a friend and planned on installing it within the next month. However, before I get started, I would like to gather all the parts so that I can do everything at once. Currently, the last two parts I need are new drive shafts and a new ECM. The truck currently has a 5.0 engine with MAF sensor. It has a 4R70W automatic transmission and a transfer case(Cant remember the model).
I read somewhere that taking the ECM out of the same year of truck with the M5OD-R2 would not work because the manuals of that year did not have MAF sensors. Are there any ECM's that would work? Someone told me that I could use a 1994 Mustang GT ECM (T4M0) but I would need to install another O2 sensor.
Does anyone have any idea what would work?
Thank you in advance for any help that is given.

I guess you previously did a swap from MAP to MAF. I'd think pulling one out of a 96 with the same setup as what your converting to would work. I think the only two electrical connectors on a manual are for reverse lights and speedo.
The 96 would be OBD II, and the 95 is an OBD I wouldn't be anything there but trouble. The speedometer signal comes from the rear differential not the transmission. Have plenty tranquilizers, alcohol and aspirin on hand when you start.
as evidenced by this info from wikipedia on ninth generation F150s',(5.0 L V8 1994–97 205 hp (153 kW) 275 lb⋅ft (373 N⋅m) 195 hp (145 kW) for automatic), there is something different in the ECM software, and or sensor types on the standard vs automatic transmission equipped trucks. IMO you would need an ECM from a 94 or 95 , 5.0, standard transmission, same trim level, 4WD, insuring that the MAP or MAF sensor on engine matches the ECM.
