1991 F150 4x4 drivetrain problem.

Hi. I am having an issue with my truck. It has an E4OD transmission and the BW13-56 transfer case.
After starting the truck the column gear selector will move through the range, but none of the gears actually engage. I can roll the truck while selector in park. if I do roll the truck about 6 ft,,sometimes it will go into gear and drive fine until I change gears. Any ideas? Ps. fluids full. Thanks

Check your shift linkage from the lever to the transmission and the MLPS (neutral safety switch, it also transmits the lever position to the PCM).

I thought Neutral safety switch involved being able to start engine while not in park or neutral. Truck starts fine, moving gear selector has no effect

The "neutral safety switch" is a MLPS, it also transmits the lever position to the PCM for transmission electronic control.
