manual trans oil

94 f150 4.9 5spd
I changed out the oil in the manual trans with motorcraft mercon lv this last fall and it is getting increasingly rough between first and second. I thought I read right but need to be sure if it's right. I also read elsewhere Pennzoil synchromesh could help.. any ideas?

Thanks Craig

LV is the wrong fluid - it takes standard Mercon or Mercon V. I use a universal synthetic in mine.

I picked up the mercon V and got to thinking I put that same mercon LV in the transfer case it's 4wd. am I OK on that or should it be the V? I appreciate the help. Craig

The only F150's the LV should be used in is the 6R80 automatic transmissions starting in 2009. It's too thin for either your trans or case.

This is what you are supposed to be using in the transfer case:

Amazon.com: Genuine Ford Fluid XL-12 Transfer Case Fluid - 1 Quart: Automotive Amazon.com: Genuine Ford Fluid XL-12 Transfer Case Fluid - 1 Quart: Automotive

The manual trans was speced out for Mercon, which is no longer available, Mercon V is acceptable.

so it's been about a week since I changed it out. There were quite a few filings on the plug maybe a little more than I expected. first into second is still a slight rumble. I wish the gearing on these 5 speeds allowed for easy starts in second. I am wondering if some ER would make any difference

Thanks Craig
The Fox Shop on YouTube did a review on Pennzoil Synchromesh, it seemed to work for his F150.
I just replaced my flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and slave cylinder (all LUK Band) and did the oil change as well.. The oil that was in it looked really dirty.. I added about 4 quarts of Mobil1 Synthetic ATF. It's been about a month and the gear change is real smooth. I would recommend it. Each quart was about $10 at AutoZone. Hope this helps.
