New Bronco Owner

Just bought a 1981 Bronco for my son. He'll start driving it come end of the year so i have a couple months to get it dependable and running good. It has the Air pump emission junk on the 351M. I know in Texas they don't emission test vehicles over 24 years, but does anyone know if they still do a visual for the equipment? I do plan on replacing the cat with a high flow cat that doesn't require a air pump.

Thanks,

Rob in Houston.

I didn't think the M engine was available in '81 - click this, read the caption, and then inspect the truck:

In general, keeping a vehicle close to stock makes it easier to maintain, more fuel-efficient, more reliable, safer, cleaner, more comfortable, cheaper to insure, and more valuable. Check with local inspection stations or state law websites for those requirements.

It is a 1981, but build date of 10/80, so one of the last 351Ms to get put into a 81 model. I have untill December before my son turns 16 so i have a couple months to get it running dependable and safely. We can wait on a paint job.

thanks,
