Help please......

Ok guys I am new here and seeking advice. I have a 1995 f150 with a 5.0 efi. I have recently done an oil pan replacement and elected to pull the motor, since I am a bigger guy. I got the motor back in and go to start it up but I am running into a few issues.
1. Engine will stall out shortly after starting unless I step on the pedal
2. Engine will start but will not go above 500 rpm .
3. After resetting I can get the rpm up higher but I am getting white smoke and water from tailpipe
4. Spark plugs are covered in soot and smell of fuel horribly

Now it's my understanding that white smoke is usually a result from coolant being burned in the combustion chamber but I am unsure of how it could be if all I touched was the pan.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The color of the smoke is not a positive identifier. Hold a piece of cold glass in it, and see what condenses. See if you can set it on fire (be careful, have a bucket nearby and protect your eyes). Is the coolant level dropping? Is the cap venting into the overflow tank when the engine is running? What is the fuel pressure? Is there liquid gasoline (or even the odor) in the Red vacuum line on the FPR?

Thanks for the reply. I will try the glass method. I have no significant loss of coolant that I can see. When I checked the fuel pressure at the rail it read 37. And I checked the fpr and no sign of it malfunctioning, no gas or fumes in the vaccum hose.

Did you have any of these problems before oil pan replacement and pulling the motor? if not then you forgot to hook something up, or wrong, or make sure the wiring is not caught between bell housing and the motor. You will get white smoke and water from tailpipe when its cold or fogy out. this is normal with a cold exhaust pipe until everything heats up. Also go through all the picture that Steve83 gave you the link to check everything is pluged in??
