1996 Fuel Filter
Hi Iam new to this site. this is my first post. Iam trying to change fuel filter on my 96. Whats the secret to getting the hoses off without cutting them

You need a special tool. You should be able to buy one wherever you bought the filter at - Champion, Checker, Napa, etc. There is a little spring inside that holds the hose on. The tool will expand the spring allowing the hose to come off. It's nearly impossible to do without a tool and without damaging stuff. The tool only costs around $10-15 and you can get a "universal" model that fits a lot of different vehicles.
Also, there are different sizes of filters that will fit on these trucks. Make sure that when you put a new one on that it is the correct one. When I bought my truck it already had 25,000 miles and someone put a filter on it that I could't get off with one of those special tools. I had to cut it off and then use the tool to remove what was left. I tried 3 different brands of tools before I got out the cutters. The nipples didn't stick out away from the filter far enough to get a tool behind them. (Sounds more like a personal problem doesn't it)
