shift linkage problem E40d

93 f150 5.0 AOD auto trans

Shifter on the coloum doesnt go into park, says park but its in reverse..... says R but in nutral says N but in drive so on and so forth.

Can my ljnkage be loose, I can shift it manually by hand under the truck fine but on the coloum it wont go into its proper gear. What can I look for under the dash?

there are two brass looking bolts that came loose up under the dash. Lay on your back looking up above the brake. Here is a pic.

I have the same problem with my 98 4.2 f150. I checked the shift bracket and it is secured properly. Any ideas?

Not exactly applicable to your truck - this is for pre-97 with AOD/E4OD. You have a 98 with 4R70W.
