93 5.8 400hp build

Hi everbody.
I have a 93 5.8 f150 SD xlt with a drop in k&n, and pacesetter shorty headers which flow cat free to a 3 inch cherrybomb glasspack. I also disabled the egr when i did my headers. I am about ready to take the next step and start building the motor.
Now i am not as knowledgeable as to how all of the parts in my engine work together as i would like to be, and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for some good literature that could help me with that?
I am looking to get at least 400Hp 450ft/lb of torque out of my build and i would love to hear ya'lls suggestions on how to reach that goal, or come close to it. Also from what i have read it seems i need to have a custom Speed Density tune done to utilize any upgrades i do. is that true?

After the engine build i also plan on pulling out the crappy plastic dash because all the mounts are cracking to pieces and building a custom wood dash. does anyone know of any problems i should look out for?

Heads, cam, and intake will get you on the way to 400. Read up on some mustang forums for good 351w builds

Mustang forums probably would be good to check. I think building a wood dash would be a gigantic PITA and it'd be best to try LMC truck for a replacement. Props to ya if you can do it, but seems like it'd really be a lot of work.

There are several detailed step-by-step 302/351 rebuilds on Youtube that are great. Summit Racing sells multiple levels of rebuild kits with all of the components, including new pistons, pre-matched and ready to go, with different levels of performance from stock to monster...starting at only $350 for the 351.

No real rocket-science in a rebuld.

408w

I've decided I'm going to go ahead and do a 408 stroker. Only thing I'm trying to decide now is of I want to go to carb when I do the build to cut cost and keep everything clean. Any suggestions?
