Shift lock/cruise

Hi everyone, just signed up. I've got a question I hope you all can help with. I have a 95 F150 supercab, 5.8L automatic, 143,000 miles. Love the truck, runs great, I've had it about a year and a half, other than needing paint, it looks great. But, the cruise control doesn't work or the shift lock, where you have to put your foot on the brake to get out of park. Also, sometimes the speedo jumps around at higher speeds, 50-60mph. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How did your park/brake interlock fail? Won't unlock, or won't lock?

Cruse control failure is most likely the clock spring in the steering wheel. Does the horn work, or do you have airbag codes? They are separate circuits though, and one can fail before the others in the clock spring, so you have to ohm the wires out before I'd pull the airbag and wheel.

Waivering speedo is a sign the rear abs speed sensor on the rear diff is dieing.

Horn works, and the shift lock has been that way since I bought the truck. I've never had any lights, air bag, check engine, etc. I just got a scanner so I'll try it and see if I get anything. Anyone know about the old recall with the cruise where the dealer disconnected it?

As far as the sensor, is that the VSS?

Yes, if you are a 4x4 you have two, and you want the one that is on the rear diff.

They didn't disconnect it, they added a fuse pigtail to keep a short from starting a brake fluid fire.

Not sure about the shift lock failure but my cruise stopped working and it was the sensor on the power brake. If you see brake fluid pooling at the end of your brake booster where the wire comes out then the sensor needs to be replaced. If that is it then its an easy fix. Just unscrew and replace.
