96 5.0 Experiance only please

I bought a 1996 F 150, 302/5.0, 4x4 Eddie Bauer edition (single cab) 160,000 miles bout 7-8 mnths ago. It was probably a hasty decision but I have always liked the short box 4x4's in that yr mod. After I purchased it I started going bumper to bumper fixing all the issues I could find. It is a solid truck, although neglected by previous owners. Any way, I am now having to drive about 80-100 miles a day to work and what not, and I am having a few issues.

1) The gas gauge does not read F when the tank is full. and drops to under half in the first few minutes of driving. When it gets to round 1/4 mark it seems to stop moving. Any thoughts?

2) I noticed a shutter around the 40-45mph mark. I have read that there is some anti-shutter grease/oil you can add to help with this. Is this true, and if so does it work? Where does one apply it? Thanks for your help guys.

3) Any thoughts on gas mileage would be helpful as well. I have done all the basics i.e. plugs, wires, K&N drop in, fluid changes regularly. Does a throttle body spacer help any. My 5.0 is carbureted.

4) I have a rattle that is coming from under the dash in the driver area. I know this could be a million things, but has anyone else had this and did you discover what it was.

Again I would appreciate only posts from those who have had experience with these issues. Any advice would be appreciated and used, I just don't like to wasting time on what someone thinks it could be.

I have never seen a 1996 302 with a carburetor, so either you are mistaken or this thing has been modified. Being that 1996 was the first year of OBD2, if you have a carburetor all bets are off on getting any kind of useful troubleshooting info for driveability or gas mileage issues.

By the way, you are asking to be ignored when you come in here with that kind of attitude with your first post. We have some very sharp people here who don't necessarily have YOUR specific experience - especially with a carburetor retrofit on an engine that didn't come with one.........

Personally, if it has an automatic, I'd like to know how he's getting the E4OD to work properly without a TPS signal.

Well I'd bet the problem with ****ty mileage and shuddering would have to do with a hack job carb swap. Asking about a throttle body spacer though confuses me.

For the fuel problem, could be a pinhole leak in the float, trash on the wiper arm, or an actual bad gauge itself. Single tank truck?

He doesn't say automatic, so I'd guess an M5OD-R2 truck if it actually was swapped to a carb.
