Man, that starter was fried. It went **** up in a parking lot. I took it to the parts store for testing and it tested fine but one post was glowing red. I bought a new starter, tossed it in and all is well. I did make new ground wires using the welding cable and so far so good. I crimped on good lugs and used marine shrink tubing to keep moisture out in hopes of also keeping the corrosion down. Harbor Freight has some really cheap marine shrink tubes.

Glad to hear it all worked out, USAF. Did you connect the ground like Adrian said? I had read awhile ago where he was telling someone else to do that. I thought it sounded pretty solid, but uhh, I haven't gotten around to it yet. Lol. Maybe I'll do it this year before winter comes. Thanks for the reply, Peace, Dave.

I did. There is a ground that runs from a bracket on the motor to the firewall on the passenger side. I replaced that ground and then added a ground wire from that bracket to the battery. I also replaced the ground wire from the battery to the passenger side inside fender wall. I figured I couldn't overdue grounds. My next project is to search out the grounds aft of the engine compartment and clean/replace them too.
