oil pan question

I want to replace the oil pan on my 1992 F-150 5.8 4x4. The book calls to drop the Y pipe, remove the upper intake plenum, remove the radiator and fan shroud. Is this all really necessary? I had one replaced on an earlier truck and never asked what was involved. A local shop high grossed me at $600 labor plus parts.

Been a few years, but the motor does have to be undone from the mounts and jacked up to clear the axle and oil pump. I don't think I pulled off the plenum, but did take the fan off so I wouldn't have to fool with the radiator.
