88 f150 eng swap

I am new to this board, I have owned my 302 EFI ford for about 9 years and its time for another eng, 160k. I bought a 86 Mercury Markie 302 EFI from a junk yard , it will be the doner engine. All has gone well in this trans plant with the exception of the truck fan mounting to the 86 car water pump, it may also be that the water pump is turning the wrong direction. Would like to here from any one who has done this and give me a idea of what else I can expect.

I would use the truck water pump. You know that it turns in the right direction.

water pump

The truck water pump is a must. The fan blade for the truck water pump has the right pitch to suck air . The car water pump turns the oppisite direction and can not be used (BLUE in pict), it blows air toward the raditor. The truck water pump will not fit to the timing chain cover of car engine. it appears that the timing chain cover of the truck will have to be installed . I really dont know if this is going to work yet! It sure would have been alot easyer to do while the eng was out. Just tryin to keep my f150 alive!

Sounds like you are right. You will probably have to use your truck timing cover

changing the timig cover of the car eng is not required! the truck water pump bolts right up. This has to be done in order to use the mounting brackets for the ac and steering pump, they will not clear a car pump. another difference is that the 88 f150 block has a knock sencer at the rear of eng,the 1986 doner engdoes not. it seems it makes no difference that Ihave not pluged it into anything. no codes come up when i scan the system. I have drove the truck all week to work all is going well.
