Funky little trans issue

I have a 1992 F-150 4x4 5.8 with the 4 speed electronic trans. I get some intermittent hard shifting not bad, but definitely not as smooth as it should be. When I put in O/D off it shifts perfect all the time. What might be the the little gremlin here? The hardest shifting is 1st to 2nd.

Mine did that hard shifting 1to 2 but not worried about it at all. Check the fluid to make sure its not low and is still red

I had the same feeling about the neutral safety switch.

As far as cost is this the same sensor. $180 seems steep.

Pulled codes, got code 634. MLPS out of test range. They are expensive for the motorcraft updated MLPS plus pigtail ($150) Figured I'd go with genuine parts over the wire your own pigtail generic ones.

I'll let you know if that fixes the issue. Thanks for the help.

Yep....same issue as mine last month.

They seem to place the switch near hot areas so they don't read as well.

I replaced my MLPS with genuine motorcraft due to a perceived shifting issue that ended up being the two bolts under the dash holding the cable. I also have the hard shifting from 1st to 2nd but replacing the MLPS did not fix that. My truck shift great when cold but shifts harder when warm. It's done this for years and has not got any worse so I haven't worried too much about it. I don't push my truck hard off the line which lessens the harshness.

Truck shifts great now. Was like putting a new trans in. Pulls the boat great and happy with the fix.

Maybe the new sensor is broken or was installed wrong.

But...still sounds like same issue...its getting to hot to read from computer...

Maybe it could also be the computer...or just poor connection.
