Alright then the age old question, how can I get some more hp/tq out of this engine. I've always heard horror story's of messed up engines with people upgrading speed density controlled engines with headers and cams and stuff like that. Also I heard that to change over to maf sensor is a huge job. Just wondering if there is any truth to any of this. Thanks for listening.

Gen I Lightnings were speed density. 'Nuff said? There is no major problem with modifying S/D controlled engines, they simply may not allow the same types or as wide a range of mods as the MAF engines. How much "more" are you looking to get? You can support somewhere around 275 HP with the stock injectors. The computer may or may not be real happy at that level but it should come close. The biggest thing about S/D systems is that they don't like cams with appreciably more than stock overlap; it messes up the manifold absolute pressure reading upon which they rely. That limits your selection to moderate durations and slightly wider LCAs. Call the various cam manufacturers and talk with their techies, they will point you at the right cams
