Rear end chatter solved

My '92 differential has been chattering for a few years, finally got so bad I had to do something. Apparently this is very common on our trucks. Just after turning a corner the truck would buck and shake, and I could hear the differential gears chattering. I read about an easy fix and it worked great on mine. The problem is the limited slip clutch pack gets dry and chatters when it needs to move (like when you go around a corner).

Here's the fix. 1) check the gear oil level and top off if necessary 2) Drive the truck in slow tight circles, 10 times CW, then 10 times CCW, then 100 yards straight. This forces the clutch pack discs to open a little and get gear oil on them. My truck hasn't chattered for a week now, it used to do it every day. You can also add a tube of differential friction modifier to rear end, but I like the free fix. I've received a lot of help from this forum, hope this helps someone.

You should still add the modifier. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to change the lube too.

my 2011 f150 shutters when at a stop and turning right or left almost feels like grabbing pavement or in 4 wheel drive buy its not . When going straight its fine or moving and turning. Just from complete stop making turn it shutters could this be same problem someone motioned the differential clutch pack as the problem. is this what your talking about also thanks

You just wore the clutch pack unnecessarily. You should have changed the fluid and added the proper amount of viscosity modifier like it is supposed to have.

Add 4 oz of Ford Friction Modifier and one bottle of Lucas Oil Supplement, that should take care of any chatter concerns.
