Head Gasket(s) Replacement

I had a problem with my 1994 5.8L overheating and first posted under the following thread:

Partial Overheating?

....and then under another thread:

Definite Overheating this time

I decided to take the truck to the dealership and let them do their fancy tests. I was hoping to come out with a bad radiator or water pump. I had already replaced the radiator cap and the fan clutch.

Verdict: They found combustible gases in the coolant leading to a diagnosis of "Bad Head Gasket."

The dealership gave me an estimate about $2700. Holy Crap Batman!

I am sure I can get the job done for less somewhere else, but just wondering if you guys have any other thoughts, suggestions or advice.

The truck is in absolutely beautiful shape and just turned 111K miles.

Take it to an independent or do it yourself. Skip the "stealership." IT is not hard to do. Remanufactured heads(wort case) i'd say 5-700 dollars est. gaskets ect 150.00, odds and end parts 100, fluids 50.00. Much cheaper.
