Shift Kit?

Hey everybody,

I recently posted about a leak I had in my '89 f150 and someone told me I should have a B&M Shift Kit installed.

Can someone explain what it does and what exactly it is?

I tried Google but I'd prefer the guys on here to explain it. They seem to get to the point quicker than these Google answers, lol.

Thanks!

The person who posted that is a bit too enthusiastic. There is no need to modify a stock transmission unless you are doing a bunch of other mods for performance. A shift kit would raise internal transmission pressures and firm up the shifts - possibly to the point of being TOO harsh.

The kits I installed in my C4s for my Mustangs were springs, *****, and a plate that goes in the valve body to firm up the shifts, eliminate the built in slippage. They are great.

First off, post the trans code on your door jam, or count the number of pan bolts to see what you even are starting with. For '89 yer choices are C6, AOD, or E4OD.
