What trans in my 85 F150?

I just picked up an 85 f150 w/ a carbed 300i6, and the reverse in the trans has gone out. Which transmission should be in the truck? I'm thinking AOD, but i'm not sure. It is an automatic. Is there anything I can do to fix reverse short of rebuilding? Thanks in advance!

If it is an automatic it is either an AOD or a C6, does it have overdrive? Hows the fluid look\smell?

What is the TRANS code on the door jamb sticker? C6 would be "K".

I don't think they ever put the AOD behind a 300 I6 - looks like C6 only until they came out with the E4OD in 1989.

To answer some questions:

The trans code on the door is W. I'm positive now it has an AOD. The fluid looks pink and doesn't smell burned or anything, and it is at the proper level. Am I going to have to rebuild to get reverse back? Will any AOD work if I can find a salvage trans? Thanks again for the help.

Hmm... I guess i'll have to look at the pan to see what it is then. There is a little badge on the tailgate that says overdrive, but I haven't driven the truck to see if it has 4 speeds yet.
