Looking to Buy 6" Lifted '92

My buddy is going to look at this truck tomorrow. What specific things should he look for and what kind of offer would you make?

It is re-geared, but will this help out a tranny that is pushing 35's at 130,000 miles?

Thanks in advance.

First, look for mud packed in areas u wouldnt expect (frame, gas tanks, suspension parts). If u see excess mud run away as it was probably beat. Also check all the lift brackets for signs of rusting and looseness.

Also look for rust around the rear wheel wells, leaf spring hanglers, coil towers, front fenders, tailgate, bottom of the doors and radiator support. Also the usual engine for blow by, new parts, oil leaks, etc.

Those gears will help with the trans, but 4:10s are a medicore gear swap. 4:56s would have been better with 35"s.

So it's a 2WD? He didn't mention the front axle at all. look everywhere for rust, etc. Lay under the front of the truck, have someone turn the steering wheel and make sure there's no play in the steering system. Another good rust spot for these trucks it the bottom cab corners, behind the seats, pull up the carpet and check there.

Being that it is a 92, the PCV valve is probably routed to the BACK of the intake plenum on the passenger side. If so, pull the number 8 spark plug and check it, number 8 will be the cylinder in the worst shape (90% of the time) when the PCV valve is routed this way. If the PCV valve is routed into the normal vacuum tree, then pull and plug and examine it.
