Fuel Pump?

So i have an actual problem. The trusk started out a few weeks ago stalling momentarily while driving down the road, seemed to be doing it mainly when I got on it or let off, it got a bit worse and now it has stalled completely out twice, almost like it was out of gas, let it set for 10 minutes or so and it fires right back up. I haven't gotten any codes read on it yet but it does have CEL and has had for a while. I was thinking MAP. or fuel pump. remember it sat for about years and I have but about 5000 miles on it since i bought it July

ok so back from o'rielly's the codes where throttle position sensor not set or something like that and the fuel injector pump level not within test. Also there was a bad gas/varnish smell under the hood that I also smelled the first time it died. The orielly guy said it sounded to him like a clogging up fuel filter so once it stops raining i will be changing that

It only goes on 1 way, and there's no adjustment. Instead of those vague recollections of code definitions, pull codes yourself & look them up in the list in this caption:

Then follow the links to the procedure for each.

I am a bone head. now that we have that out of the way. I tried to put the wrong filter on. The ports coming off of it are too short. It is attached to one fuel line but will not click into the other. The problem is there is not enough room to fit the tool in between connector and the filter to get the wrong filter off. So any suggestions? is there an extender i could put on to make the wrong one work? Or am i going to have to destroy the wrong filter inorder to get it off?

If you pulled the fuel line from the fuel filter you can damage the spring inside the line.

You insert the tool, push the fuel filter and line together and they should pop off. Takes patience.

Read this caption:

Then read the PREVious one.

Cutting with diags. was a 2nd mistake. Now the release tool won't fit, and even if it did, there's nothing to grab to pull the nipple out. Try to round the crimped/cut end of the nipple open so you can get the tool in & grab the opened tube.

Well it took a bit, i havent been able to get back to it, but the nipple is out and now all i have to do is wait til get paid on wends. so i can go pick up a new filter and put it all back together. then drive it and she if that takes care of it.

Success! So after the worlds longest inframe fuel filter change she is back on the road. I am haven't driven it far yet, but I would say by the lack of surge at idle, it had a pretty good surge before when cold, that the fuel filter did the trick!
