Alright gentlemen here is the question I have while i set mindlessly at work at 10 pm. My truck has 195,000 on the 5.0...so it is conceivable that at some point in the next 100,000 miles or the next 5ish years that she will give up the ghost. So what do I do? Grab a junkyard 5.0? Rebuild the 5.0? Get a 4.9 or 5.8? I want to be able to drive the truck and have fun doing it, haul whatever I might happen to need to haul and drive the truck daily. Anyway just a good discussion point. oh it has M5OD. 2wd short bed.

 

Burn that bridge when you come to it - it's like asking what to do if you get cancer 10 years from now. If you maintain the truck, there's no reason it shouldn't last 20 more years. But if you're worried about it, start shopping for an engine now, and throw it in storage (properly prepped). Either way, it's not like they're rare or complicated to rebuild.
