Carb help?
Carb help?
A week ago i picked up a 1970 F100. Its really in good shape, but ran pretty crappy. Smokes a little on start up; valve seals im guessing. the guy i got it from was just finishing up putting on a autoline reman 2V carb, and i think it needs adjusted, and cant find any schematics or other info. Heres some of the symptoms though, just see if im off off base at all. Only smokes on start up, compression is good to go, idles fine and sounds beautiful, once you get to driving its fine until your rpms get a little higher, then it feels like in transition it studders, stumbles, chokes and if i floor it itll smooth back out, on the interstate it kind of feels a little jerky almost like a miss. I've adjustedthe points, timing(with vacuum hoses unhooked and plugged), i just feel like maybe the air fuel mix and maybe the float needs adjusted. I'm not even sure if the vacuum hoses are connected where they need to be. the guy i got it from sounded like he knew a few things until i checked the timing that he just got done doing ......was way off, so who knows what else he fixed wrong. Anyone have good schematics or a pdf service manual? any good advice on adding anyhting to the oil before changing it out? sounds like a valve might be sticking a little when its cold and jsut kind of want to "clean" it up a little. I'm going to pull the heads and intake soon, just being lazy and if i can do anyhting to procrastinate a little more i'll be ok with that, haha.
Buy a rebuild kit for that carb - it will come with instructions on how to set it up after the rebuild. Then hang onto the kit - you'll need it in a few years (if not sooner).
