is it worth it?

Hi everyone I'm looking for some honest advice,
I purchased my truck about a month ago and discovered that the transmission is starting to slip and shutter.
Its the E40D trans and the 5.0L V8.
I was quoted $2000 for a complete trans rebuild so I'm wondering is it worth it or should I cut my loses and buy another truck?
Thanks in advance.

You don't need a rebuild till it stops working.

Change the fluid and hope for another year.. Depends on the condition of the truck. If it has no rust or not much it has less then 150 thousand mile and everything else is working good 2000 isnt much really if the truck seems like its got another 5-6 years in it otherwise..

i give it 6 months or less had the same engine and trans in my 93 i just junk automatics i cant stand them i only buy stickshift id rather replace a clutch for $120 then a $2000 trans

in a little over 2 years i blew 6 trannys in 2 trucks that were auto and 2 of them were brand new

ive never burnt a clutch or blew a manual trans n i beat the snot out of my trucks and tow upto 3 tons at one time

The E4OD is a good transmission. Stock they served me well. If you take it to a reputable shop and have rebuilt, it will last for quite a while. My E4 has had considerable custom work done to it and its tuff as nails. The p.o. only spent $1300 to have it done. Mind you it shifts hard under substantial throttle (cushion plates removed in favor of more clutches) but I was able to get rubber into third.

I wish I had an E40D, they're pretty good for Automatics, my AOD is the most annoying thing on my truck.

^^^^ I have a feeling that your AOD isn't going to like your SAS idea. Hope it works out.

Unless I go to a divorced T-case, you're right. I'll probably doing a MAF\E40D\SAS all at the same time...plenty to go wrong...lol
