Front Sway Bar

I have the "curved crossmember" front sway bar mount system. The whole setup looks kind of ugly considering the front bumper is gone with a tube bumper there that I'm thinking of taking off and going with a RockSolid from JBGY.

Today at the JY I found a really nice looking frame mount sway bar off an 85 FSB, looks like it will fit, although I didn't take any measurements, and be a cleaner installation.

Any input, suggestions and thoughts are appreciated..

I don't exactly know what you mean by "curved crossmember", but I want to say that '80-'96 sway bars were all the same.

I'll look in my pictures when I get off work.

I don't have a picture of it, but its actually a cross member that mounts to the bottom of the frame just aft of the bumper brackets. The front sway bar "D" fittings then mount to this crossmember. The bronco I looked at didn't have the "crossmember", instead the sway bar "D" fittings mount directly to brackets that mount to the bottom of the frame horns. The brackets themselves extend inboard a couple inches so the D fittings are not at the same width apart as the frame rails. With all due respect Adrian, Hellwig sells 2 setups, one for those with the crossmember and another for those with out.

I have the same type of sway bar you are talking about.
Thought I had a picture, but its before the valance was taken off so you can't see it.
I personally don't mind it being like it is, it's something for rocks to bounce off of before the axle. Plus mine has been used as a pulling point, which bent the mount but no complaints.
So yeah, there are two different styles of mounting, I'm betting they are exchangeable.

I thought I had some more pictures from the fleet, but the only one I can find at the moment is from my 88 Bronco

Ok, you can see a little bit of the same bar on my '84.

My '92 and '95 have the same type as well.

And that would be the type he is wanting to get I suppose?
Mine does not look like that, it mounts to a cross member type deal in front of the axle just aft the bumper.

The picture Adrian posted is of the one I want. I believe it will be a direct bolt up. To me , it looks cleaner and I believe the sway bar itself is a bigger diameter.

The PO installed an oil cooler and placed the heat exchanger in front of the consensor. They ran the hoses below the radiator support and dropped the crossmember down 2 inches with steel U channel (which is now bent ) so the hoses wouldn't chaffe. Anyway, the whole thing looks hoeky and I plan on ripping the mess out.

A 2WD mounts the sway bar differently from a 4WD (like all Broncos), and the pre-'92 mounts are different from '92-96. But the early 80s sway bars were mostly interchangeable, so it'll PROBABLY bolt up to factory holes if you get everything off the donor.

Thanks for all the chiming in everyone..The plan is to remove it from the fwd shock mount brakets to the frame. Once I get in the junkyard, in the heat, on the ground with nothing but wrenches, sockets and Kroil... Well, at that point I have no other choice but to get the whole thing out....

Ok,,, now for next question about this subject...I see JBGY sells a sway bar drop bracket and I'm wondering just how much of a necessity are they with a 4" lift?

Never had a four inch lift, but it is for sure needed to relocate the bar on a 6"
