ac help please it's hot
Have a 1992 F150 replaced the ac compressor because old one's clutch went bad before I recharge it I turned it on but the clutch won't engage I know it's a working unit because I pulled it out of another truck I can't get power to either with at the compressor and checked fuses their good does it need to have freon to engage or is it something else and where is it
they need to have 134a and the oil to work if u didnt already u need to put the retrofit kit on it. im assuming u have already dun so since u just recharged the old system. also be sure not to over charge get the manifold with the gauge to be sure ur not over filling
The low pressure cutout switch will not let it engage without the system being charged.
You would be best off taking it to a pro to have the system evacuated, leak checked, and charged. When you opened the system, you let moist air in and it MUST be evacuated with a vacuum pump.

AC ticking
I have a 2005 F-150 with about 58,000 miles and when I turn on my AC it makes this obnoxious ticking sound and hot air blows (I live in Vegas, so it way sucks), but once I hit 55 MPH the sound stops and cold air starts to come through the vent. I have checked if the AC needed to be charged and it shows that it is fully charged. I have taken it to a shop and a guy said that I need a new compressor. He wants $800 for part and installation....I can buy a new compressor for around $250. What other things should I have checked before I go for a whole new compressor?
Take it to a pro. You can't halfass the A/C system, or repair it piecemeal - you'll just waste time, money, & patience. Get the WHOLE thing fixed by someone who knows what he's doing.
You can replace most of the parts yourself. Just make sure that it has been evacuated. 9 times out of 10 if your compressor goes out it has put trash or gunk in the whole ac system. So you will need to replace your dryer anytime you open the system. Also replace the orfrice tube and flush out the condenser, evaporator and lines to ensure a good quality job. The recharge the truck if you put on a new compressor the new one has oil in it so just add Freon. I just did this to my 1992 5.0 but i replaced every thing but the evaporator. It took us about 2 hours to do it all and he works for a ford dealership so having the right tools does make all the difference.
