to lift or to lower...that is the question...

well guys and gals, i'm at a crossroads...i don't know if i want to lift or lower my truck. it's an 87 F150 XL 4x2 rclb with the 300/4-speed. i love the way these trucks look lifted, but since this truck is 2wd, lowering it is probably most sensible...but i keep going back and forth so i figured i'd come here for opinions.

also, if you could point me in the direction of some 2wd lift kits (in case i go that route), i'd appreciate it...

thanks in advance for all your help/input...

When in doubt....LIFT.

If you lift it...they will come.

haha i hear ya buddy! i really like the way these look lifted...but lowered trucks look pretty good too...but if i lifted it, put an aussie locker in the back and some aggressive tires i could really hold my own off road...AAAAARRGGH! keep the opinions/advice coming!

Though I am new here...
I would personally lower it, just because it is 2wd...
From what I have heard, (no experience lifting, but experience lowering) lifting a 2wd truck is a bit harder to do and requires more money in the long run. But that is just what I heard, and have no experience in the 2wd world.
But lowered, with bags in the rear, running a hard bed cover, with 20"+ rims and low pros would be nice...could really haul *** with some tastefull mods

Lift it,the brick front end just ins't the looks you need for a lowered truck. Lifted they look beast.
And while I know a 300 with a manual can launch hard.. it ain't no race car so lowering would kind of be ricer like..

well, where can i find the best deal on lift kits for it? i found some, but the price seemed a little on the high side...and i only found a 4"...i know i read about some guy running a Rough Country 6" on his 4x2.

i'm still open to thoughts and opinions on lowering it too, but so far it looks like lifting it is winning...

Rough country is the cheapest. Period. That is what I am going to be getting, I would love for a more expensive one with extended radius arms and not just lowered brackets, but money doesn't allow it.
The lifts are the same 4x4 or 4x2.

Rough country themselves has had the best prices. Believe me I've spent many of nights up way too late looking for a cheaper way, there isn't.
Rough country has a 4x2 kit, order that. If you find a used kit you want that's 4x4 it will work. But if you order new then why order the technically wrong thing, right?

Lift it for sure RCLB trucks lowered looks weird to me lift they look great plus its always nice to drive a lifted truck. 2wd lift kits are usually pretty cheap, with a locker and some aggressive tires it will be a nice truck.

ya go with a lift, like the guys said not a great look when lowered and limits your usage on clearance. These trucks look hot when lifted. I had a pre-86 lifted and everybody thought it was a lifted 4x4 and it looked mean. I just had a little rub on the turn and a horrible turn radius, but it was an extended cab long bed with 33's. My last 97 f350 crew cab, long bed, had a 10" lift and it wasn't done right, caused all sorts of problems with 35"s on it. I bent the steering linkage on a rut, and the pitman arm wasn't cutting it either. Stay at 4" or less and if you need more get a 2" body lift. Don't forget those giant tires aren't cheap and they make your truck drive like it is driving itself. Make sure you tighten your steering to manufacture specs to help keep it on the road. This will keep you out of having to spend a whole bunch of money on extra's that you didn't factor in. Good luck and I hope to see pics when you are done.
