ol red is coming along.
I don't know if you can really find that out, without pulling the cam itself, but one of the motor buffs (Steve83, glc, Strangeranger, Adrainspeeder, etc.) bay chime in on that one. Do you know if you have roller rockers in there? The would be a little bit of an indicator that something was done. Maybe just pull the oil cap so you can see the rockers.
Ok not to switch subjects here but I just took a trip to Parsons, KS and everything was fine until an abnormally sized pot hole in the road. It was big enough that there wasn't any missing it without moving into oncoming traffic. It hit hard!!!! Now my pass rear shock is completely blown out. I unbolted the top and it just collapsed!!! Lol. I actually laughed!!! I bolted it back up for the time being. They are Gabriel Ultra shocks. Are these really any good? (as they don't look that old and have failed.) I'm looking for improved ride and handling, any suggestions?
Procomps, Rancho, or Bilsteins are all good really. I've heard that Procomp and Rancho are made by the same company...Bilsteins have a little bit of a stif ride from my experience. Ranchos are adjustable...not sure on the Procomps tho. I have KYBs on my rig and I'm not impressed, but they're not horrible either. They're Carqwest (I was broke), but they're really KYBs.
Yeah I hear ya on the broke thing. First of the month and all bills are due. I looked on rockauto and I think I'm gonna either purchase a set (4) Monroe Sensa Trac's or buy a set of Toxic shocks from Stylintrucks. The Monroe's are $137 shipped and The Toxic's are $29 apiece + shipping. The reviews seem to be pretty good on the Toxic's. Plus the seem to be designed more for the 2" shackles I plan to use on The rear. I looked at the Bilstein's and wow they're pricey. A little out of my budget for The time being. Lol.
Yea i put some Bilstein 5100s on my buddy's yota and man were they stiff. They guys over at FSB say the same basically. When I first got my truck from my Grandfather he had some Monroes on there that had been on there for 19 years...yea they were bad but they at least lasted 15 wiith a pop-up camper on the back. Thats got to say something about the quality, so I'd go with the Monroes.
Booba. I see in your Sig that you rerouted your pcv and brake booster lines. Can you point me in a direction of a write up on it? Also you have a f350 brake M/C. Was that a direct bolt on or was there some modification involved? I have plenty of go and need some more whoa. Lol
The F350 stuff was a direct bolt-in, when I put the Booster on I had to move the EEC plug that is by the airbox, but once the booster was on I could put it back. I didn't really find a write up, but I have some pic of it. Basically you run the brake booster hose to the back of the intake plenum where the PCV would normally hook up, then run the brake booster to the vacuum tree, here:
I'm holding\pointing at the hose that goes over to the PCV valve, and you can see it goes to the vacuum tree on the upper plenum

Here I'm holding\pointing at the vacuum line that comes off of the brake booster, it's hard to see, but it goes around back to where the PCV valve would normally go to.
Yes...that is an XBOX 360 heatsink cooling my ICM...works great! lol

Run a hose from the PCV valve (thing on the valve cover) to the vacuum tree, then run a hose from the brake booster to backside of the upper intake plenum. I only needed the new hose from the pcv valve to the vacuum tree.
I have so many thoughts and ideas for this truck its not funny. Some are practical and others are outrageous. But to answer your question, yes I have thought about e fans. Actually I would love to install one but from what I've seen they aren't exactly plug n play and I'm pretty weary of trying to put holes in my radiator. It would be my luck to puncture it! Lol. Besides having less drag on the motor, what are other advantages to e fans? Do they cool any better?
Hard to say, on mine I have 2 Taurus e-Fans with 2 speeds (3 if you include off), in my journey from Phoenix to Missouri I never had to turn them any higher than low, even when I was at 4000 rpm for 5-10 min. There's varying numbers on what the taurus fans move, but mine is ~5200cfm on low and ~9000 cfm on high. I saw one thread that said the stock fan moves up to 10,000cfm, but thats at 6,000 rpm. With e-fans it move that much at idle. I didn't need to poke any holes through my radiator, with the exception of the temperature probe for the fan controller. It's about the size of a toothpick, so you won't be doing any harm, it went right through with no problems. There is some wiring involved, and a 3g alt. upgrade is a must with these things. I can walk you through the wiring, it's pretty easy. There's 2 ways to set it up really, a fan controller that gradually turns the fans on to soften the load on the charging system (turns the fans on at 30%, then slowly steps it up to 100% if needed); or the cheap may (I like cheap, what can I say). The cheap way is to install a 3-way switch for the fans in the dash, it's basically a low-off-high switch. The fans are still turned on by a temperature probe so they're not on all the time, but when they DO turn on, the switch is what determines if they're going to be on low, high, or not on at all (I put the off setting in for when I drive through creeks and such and don't want to spray the motor). All in all the project cost me about $130-$140, but that was back in Phoenix, I dunno what junkyard prices are out here. The only thing that I got from the junkyard (for this project at least) is the fans them selves, everything else was newstuff, having the Thunderbird fuse box was very awesome though. It makes the 3g Alt conversion a breeze, has 4 relays built in, and ~20+ fuses, already wired into 12v. I'll see if I can find a thread I posted on here about the fuse box...

Well its been a while since I've posted but I have been busy with everyday life and other organizations I'm affiliated with. But I have made some progress with a couple of small things. I went ahead and replaced the spark plugs and did the timing bump. I am impressed with the results. I checked the gap on the old plugs and was left to assume that the PO just threw them in without gapping them. They varied from .042 to .051! I set the timing at 14* BTDC, 13.5* was a bit hard to get to, so I figured what was the difference of a half of a degree. idles and accelerates great. I also replaced the shocks. Ended up putting Gabriel pro guards on. They were the best I could afford at the time and I needed them like yesterday. But I can say there not too bad. Lastly I would like to thank the members of this site for the advice, compliments, and criticisms I have received. It will no doubt help me make this project look and perform exceptionally well.
