The tracking of shipment still says it's in texas, I'm just hoping it doesn't take long from there. Starter is holding out so far though.

 

Just in case anyone cares I got the starter rebuilt today. All went well for having absolutely no idea what I was even doing. It turned out to be the easiest thing I've done to the truck yet. I did end up pulling the armature out, but it wasn't too terribly bad to get back in. All in all it was a good success and saved me a bunch of money.

Are you going to autotopsy the starter to determine the cause of death?

 

I didn't find anything wrong with it. It was clean inside. The old bendix gear spun freely the opposite way of locking it and the new bendix gear spinds that way but not very easily. Not sure if that really means anything or not.
My dad told me his old 95 250 did this same thing every 2 years and he just replaced the bendix every time as well. He also said there was a guy with the same truck that came to a garage that he worked at and his starters were getting destroyed due to a bad ground, I'm checking that tomorrow.
A bendix every couple of years doesn't bother me, my dads new 250 has gone through a starter every 2 years years since it was bought in 2003, and those starters are nearly 200 bucks.. take that for what it's worth.

 

Sounds like you inherited your dad's tendency to hold the key in START for a little too long!

I'm pretty proud of myself though for once again fixing something with only a very vague idea of what I'm doing.
