Shift Indicator Problem

I picked me up a nice 92 F150, 4 x 4 ext cab auto, 5.8. The previous owner had put a new transmission in it, and the shift indicator reads 2nd gear in park, and moves down until not visible when in drive, I just have to count the clicks when putting it in gear to know what gear I'm in. Is this a simple cable adjustment, shifter adjustment, or do I need a new shift indicator? I'm currently restoring the interior and may have the instrument cluster apart to work on, as I am thinking of putting LED bulbs in the instrument cluster to brighten it up a bit. Would be a good time to work on it if I knew what to attack first.

What's the current trans? If you don't know, read this:

If they're different, you MIGHT need to change the shift indicator.
