No, it wouldn't. Even if the DRIVE gear was bad or wrong, the t-case doesn't have to come down, and the main case doesn't have to be split.

OH, my mistake sorry. I thought that I would need to change the gear inside the transfer case that moves the one on the speedo cable.

(higher than 80mph) Cause it hits the rev limiter when it hits 100 im not sure how fast im going but i think around 80. if your only going up to a 31x10.5. you prolly won't hardly be off any, for piece of mind, give yourself 5mph.
You're post thoroughly confused me.
You can calibrate your speedo you won't need a drive gear.
Delilah..my truck..doesn't know what the highway is. Roads around here are 45mph max, go any faster and your likely to hit a pothole and be sent for one hell of a ride or meet some farm animal at the end of a blind curve, *banjo plays in the background*
That being said "going with traffic" is out of the question, unless I get stuck behind a tractor there is no 'traffic'

Haha! sry i was doing too many things at once. It made sense to me...when i typed it anyway. I wasn't saying I needed a drive gear. i need a little plastic (23) tooth speedo gear. 23 tooth is the most teeth you can get, its for 4.10's. I have 4.88's but with my 35's, im right around a 4.10. Im hoping ill be right on. its about $20 bucks on the site i was looking at and it will take 5 minutes to install give or take.

Honestly, if your only going to a 31" tire. Your hardly going to be off any. Your speedo is going to be off by a percent so the faster you go the more off your gonna be. If you go 45mph around there, your speedo is only going to be off by like 1mph where as if your going 75 you might be off by like 3mph. Now, if you were going to 35's, then ya wanna do something imo. Speedometers are not 100% correct, even from the factory. If you go fast enough your speedo is going to be off by some.

That's the "drive" gear, which can be changed by removing the rear output yoke (or flange), then either the entire rear output housing (which isn't the main case), or just the seal & snap ring, then fishing the gear off the shaft.

That's the "driven" gear, which is either directly on the end of the cable (like the pic below), or on the VSS (like the diagram I posted previously).

BTW
That caption contains a TSB about this issue.
