truck dies randomly, pulled codes, need help please

I got a 1990 Ford f150 XLT lariat V8 5.0l E4OD transmission.
The truck will just shut off randomly while driving, sometimes it will show signs that its about to die because the rpm's will shoot down randomly and kind of sputter and shortly thereafter the truck will die, sometimes it just dies. After waiting around 10minutes the truck will start back up sometimes kind of rough but it will be fine to drive for at least another 15 or 20 min. I never drive longer than 30minutes at a time and it usually dies once in that time.

I originally thought it was a fuel pump issue but I replaced the fuel filter and started using the rear tank and for a little time it stopped dying i thought it was fine but then it started happening again and more and more often now, its getting worse just as it did with the front tank it wasn't always so bad but got worse too.

So I finally got the codes pulled and I wanted to post them up here to see if any of you could point me on the correct path to fixing it I'm gonna spend some more time researching the codes but thought this would be a good place to start.

I got the errors from two different sites because I like to be comprehensive so I will post the secondary errors in () parenthesis.

Key on Engine off codes 14,31,62,67,96:
14 : Ignition pickup (PIP) was erratic - Ignition Systems (engine rpm signal fault or PIP circuit failure)

31 : EVP signal is/was out of range - EVP
EVP signal is/was low - EVR
PFE signal is/was low - PFE
(egr position sensor below minimum voltage)

62 : E40D excessive convreter cluth slippage (converter cluth error)

67: intermittent Park Neutral Position (PNP) Sensor fault - PNP (nuetral/drive switch circuit open)

96 : Fuel pump relay or battery power feed was open - Power/Fuel pump circuits (fuel pump secondary circuit failure)
----------------------------
Engine Running Codes 44,74,65:
44 : AIR system inoperative - Air Injection (air injection control system failure)

74 : Brake on off circuit open - I think I messed up the BOO test but not sure posted it anyways the brakes work fine...

65 : E4OD truck - cycle OD cancel switch after engine ID is recieved - Transmissions (charging system over voltage)

I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR ADVICE!!!!

96 means you should read this caption & the NEXT few:

That may also solve several other codes &/or the stalling. 31 & 44 mean you should inspect all the vacuum lines & the coffee can. Use the vacuum map on the VECI label under the hood. 74 & 65 mean you missed the prompts. Read the thread linked in this caption:

62 means your trans MIGHT need to be rebuilt. But if you haven't noticed a problem, wait until it gets worse. Just do good maintenance and it might last. 67 means you probably have an original PNP/MLPS - there's a TSB in this caption about replacing them with an updated version.

14 is probably the reason the engine stalls. There was a class-action lawsuit against Ford about distributor-mounted ignition modules. Haynes contains an excellent ignition diagnostic procedure that can be done with a cheap 12V test light & a cheap digital multimeter.

This list of Automotive Terms & Abbreviations may also help you.

THANK YOU somehow I forgot I posted this question on here and never checked for replys! ugh

this is definately the best & most informative response ive had, most people are telling me to replace the distributor and the ICM while im at it, which might need to be done i guess, but its is always good to be sure before spending 100$ on parts.

I plan on doing some work on this on Friday or soon and I will post up results!

and AHH i hope I dont need to get the tranny rebuilt! as long as this thing lasts me the winter i have noo complaints though

THANK YOU STEVE
