im just gonna get a whole new rear axle out of the scrap yard...a place around here has one for 60 bucks but youll prolly never pay more than 200 anywhere anyway. thats the easiest way to go i think

Was the spiders shattered? that may have been the little chunks...

Its not hard IF you know what your doing, Some may dissagree but you DON'T need a gauge to do it... I was pushing 400hp threw my axles and running 38's turning 6200 RPM (77 F-150 solid 44 and 9") I set them up my touch and havent had a problem with them Bassically if you know what your doing go for it, If youve never done it its best to get someone else to do it and let you watch/show you how to do it....

ahh true. i would like to do that but i dont have the money to pay someone to rebuild them so i can watch. i wish i could. it'd be cheaper to go to a junkyard and get an axle and just change the oil in it and bolt it right on. the spider gear seemed to be in good shape. i didnt examine it too well. i saw the bad pinion gear and just put the diff cover back on and said the hell with it

that looks way too complicated on paper haha i wish i understood but ive always learned by actually doing it. its alright i'm just going to swap the whole axle. it just seems like less of a headache for me right now. eventually i'll learn. or maybe i'll take apart my broken axle after i swap it and kind of see how it goes together and whatnot. thanks for the help tho!

well good news guys. after being out of commission for over 2 months i finally found a junkyard with the right axle and gear ratio for 250 bucks. brake drum to brake drum. i even got extra brake lines, and a sway bar that mine didn't come with!
