1989 Service Manual - which is closer?

I am having a hard time finding a Service Manual for my '89 F-150. I have found a couple of 1988 and 1990 Factory Service Manuals. Does anyone know if the 1988 model is closer to the 1989 or would a 1990 manual be closer? Were there any big changes in these model years?

Thanks for the advice.

I own an '89 F-150 XL, 4.9, 5spd, 3.55 axle, reg cab, 8' bed. I've owned it since Dec, '88. It seems there was some kind of model changes made in March '89 that differentiates them in some areas. Determine when yours was manufactured. If prior to March 89, then it is a "late" '88, if after, it's an "early" 90. One of the differences I noticed was in selecting the proper U-joints for driveshaft replacement. My truck has 3 of them, 1 has a different part number than the other 2. It might make a difference when changing other parts, so learn that mfg date.

I think they changed over the fuel system in the 89's, from the Dual Function Reservoir to the in-tank high pressure pumps w/ check valves. That would suggest the 90 manual would be better aligned to the 89 truck.

That is backwards.
The 1990 had in tank high pressure pumps and the 89 did not.
The 88 & 89 are close to the same truck and the 1990 is close to the 1991.

On your 89 those are boost pumps in the tanks (puts out 7-10 PSI) and the pump on the frame is the high pressure pump.

The 1988 Service Manual arrived today. It is a well used manual, but the pages are clear and well written. I would suggest that anyone considering a Haynes or Chilton manual might want to invest in a factory service manual. You really can't compare the two products.

thanks again for all the advice.
