302 Exhaust advice

1989 f150 Reg. cab Lariat 4x4 302 (5.0) auto 120k miles (yes...120k)

The stock original exhaust pipe has rusted off just behind the factory muff, dumping exhaust on the rear axle, so I am now forced to put new exhaust on and need advice.

I am not up to speed on the older motors any more. The last time I owned an older V8 there was no internet and we all just went to the muffler shop and had glasspacks and dual pipes bent and welded on. I think there must be something better nowadays.

I want the usual...more power/torque like everybody else. Nice low rumble but not loud enough to wake up people if they are sleeping when I leave the house.
I really like the sound of the early 90's Mustang GT's with the 302. Would the same setup sound the same on my truck? I have searched this area and the exhaust area and can't seem to find what I am looking for.

My advice:

BBK (or brand of choice) shorty headers -> Basani Y-pipe w/ high flow cat -> Hooker Aerochamber SI/SI -> Maremont 3" single factory location exit replacement pipe.

Search here some, I have posted links to this setup with sound clips before.

If you want true duals and want them done right, it will probably cost you more than the truck is worth.
