Dana 44?

I recently purchased a project truck (96 f150 2wd, soon to be 4wd) that all ready has the front end swapped out for a straight axle asm. My question is....is this infact a dana 44(its 8 lub bolt pattern if that matters)? Its also has a rear axle swap....whick I believe it is out of a f250. any and all help would be apriciated! thanks

Its a Dana 44 HD its basiacally a 3/4 ton axle. They are good front ends if you dont want to spend the money on a D60 or you dont plan on going crazy with tire size.

the rear axle is more than likely a Sterlin 10.25 which is another really good axle.

4.2TRIMBLE: thanks man... whats not going crazy with tire size mean? I have 40s on it now. I bought it like it sits but its only a 2wd truck. Basiclly it needs a 4wd manual 5 speed tranny tranfer case and drive shafts. So if u know anyone with those parts im interested. thanks again.

Well crazy depends a lot on driver. I'm running 49's right now on a d60 and I'm very worried. My style of driving would destroy a d44 hd on 40's. But if you are easy with the gas pedal the 40" denman groundhawgs should be ok for you. Personally with that setup is run 38.5x11 super swamper boggers.

Is recommend keepin the stock 2wd transmission and run a divorce np205.

simplicity, and for me a divorced t-case will allow for more drop to help with driveshaft angles.

If you dont mind doing the extra work swapping in a 4x4 transmission and t-case its not a bad idea. The mated cases are normally stronger as a full unit transmission-transferrcase.

Do you plan on going any higher?
