Looking to buy an 86 F150, need info

So I'll looking to buy a 1986 F150 in the next few weeks and I need some help with a few things.

I would like to stick with a carbureted engine as I think it would be much easier for me to tinker with. At first I was looking for a 302 but just found out they switched them to TBI in 86. So now I am looking at a couple of 351's. So here are my questions that I'm sure you guys can help me with.

What kind of mpg's can I expect from an old 351?

If I decide to drop in a crate motor will a 302 bolt right in place of the 351?

Are there any issues the 351's have that I should be aware of?

I had an 86 300 I6 that my dad handed down to me but I wrecked it years ago and now I'd like to relive my glory days. Any info or suggestions will be very helpful.

I'd guess about 10 to 12 mpg.

Why not try to find an I6?

The 351 carbed engine for 1986 was a gas hog that hardly made much more power than the EFI 5.0. They were also known for digesting huge amounts of oil. Probably the worst V8 engine in an F150. I'd look for a different YM if going to the 5.8. Frankly, I'd be looking for an old 460 EFI. They'll have more power than you need and as good of fuel mileage as the 86 351 pig.

I have a 351 H.O. I get better gas mileage than it was rated for back in the day, and it does use oil, but my engine also has almost 200,000 miles on it. It has pulled everything I've needed it to, and moves around pretty alright for a 24 year old truck. IDK, I like mine much more than the EFI 5.0 Bronco we have. I have hardly any problems with it compared to the 5.0., and it is easier to work on when needed, IMO.

Thanks for the input. I thing the 351 is the way to go. I just need to wait for one to pop up close to me so I can buy it.
