'94 4x2 302 Auto... clunk on acceleration

Ok, after searching this site for a few hours, I've still come up empty. Here's the situation:

'94 302 4x2 short bed auto... makes a clunk/pop sound under hard initial acceleration, as in from a dead stop. No noise between shifts or when putting it into any gear. I can reproduce the noise on command 80% of the time by giving it more than 1/2 throttle from a stand still. The noise 'seems' to be coming from under the cab, but I know how these sound can travel. ;-)

A few days ago, I put it up on my ramps to take a peek and if I let the truck roll back down the ramps a bit and then gave it gas, I could get it to make the noise repeatedly but didn't have anyone else around to help isolate the sound.

Any suggestions?

check your motor/trany mounts. They will look fine you'll just looking at them, pry bar or crow bar. try this, hold the break put it in gear and give it the gas. Watch the motor see if it lifts. try it in forward and then try it in reverse.

i agree. check your tranny mount. theres a slight possibility it could be your u-joint but i would go with the tranny mount first.

My radius arm bushings made a clunk from a dead stop. Replaced them and it's been fine since.

jack the rear of the truck up with jack stands and check the u-joints and pinion. then work ur way forward to the front with the trans mount, motor mounts, etc.
