95 f150 fuel pump

The truck stalled and then quit running . I switched to the rear pump and it has ran fine for over a year . After filling the rear tank the gauge drops a 1/4 tank after about 15-20 miles ( the fuel is bleeding back over to the front tank and at times overflows a small amount ) . A cuple of times I have have switched the tank back to the front and once in a while it will run on the front ( 2 out of 10 times ) . I have not been able to get a pressure gauge on it while running on the front because it happens very unpredictably .
When switching from rear to front the dash gauge seems to be working fine , but sometimes goes past the full mark . Am I missing something easier than pulling the bed and spending $300 on a fuel pump . The ol girl has 220,000 miles and needs a little front end work that I cant' find time to get done , so there is a good chance I'll keep using the rear tank for a while !

Thank you

If the front pump runs intermittently, the pump is not FUBAR. You have a loose or corroded connection somewhere. Just off the top of my head it could be:
A set of bad contacts in the selector switch which would require a new switch
Loose or corroded connections at the switch
Bad ground or a loose or corroded connection on the front pump or its connector plug.
A wiring problem somewhere in between.

I'd start by jumpering the switch and see if that solves the problem. If it does, replace the switch, if not start running continuity tests. Start at the switch and find the first place where you're not getting 12v.

I think you'll find The fuel pressure is very low on the rear pump. Pumps tend to fail incrementally.

It sounds as if the rear tank float switch float is full( or almost full) of fuel and it will only float for a short period of time, mine did it also.Pulling the bed is only a 45 minute job if you have 2 peeps. ain't that tough to do,besides you need to change the front pump, right?
