engine code

hey guys, i bought a 4.9 from a friend and he is not sure what year it is. i need to order parts for it, and need to know what year it is the motor is gray, and i think its early 80's the numbers on the block is 51TE-6015-AA
i bought a 82 f100 that has no rust, except surface, and a few scratches.
it was a southern truck, cant find a truck like that in indiana. thanks guys

The first letter can't be a "5". It is either an "E", or an "F". The letter dictates the first number of the decade and the number after it indicates the year. Ex. F4TZ-6701-AA means it is a 94 number. If it is an E, that means it is an 81 casting. An F means a 91 casting. Going backwards, D=70s, C=60s, B=50s. They changed after the 90s.

E1TE-6015-AA gets Google hits, it's a block casting number - 1981. Replace the E with a F and you get nothing.
